About the Artist

Deby Gilley is a distinguished artist and educator from Mountain Grove, Missouri, specializing in linocut and woodcut relief printmaking. Over her teaching career, Deby taught art in various Missouri public schools, including Mountain Grove, Willow Springs, and Norwood, and served as an adjunct professor at Southwest Baptist University.

After retiring from teaching, Deby established The Lone Starr Studio in her hometown, dedicating herself to creating and promoting relief prints that capture the essence of Ozark culture and heritage. Her work often incorporates local slang and dialect, as showcased in her self-published book, “The ABC’s of Folklore and Slang: Told in 26 Linocuts,” which features phrases familiar to Ozarkians.
