Dade County ArtConnect began with a spark—one that ignited during a simple clay night at the local school. When Jocelyn Dunaway, a Greenfield resident, met Jennifer Jones, an art teacher in Greenfield, a casual conversation revealed a shared dream: bringing more opportunities for creative expression to our rural community. That night, an idea took shape, and soon, our journey began.
We started small, hosting art classes in community spaces, bringing together people of all ages to explore fiber arts, painting, pottery, and more. As word spread, so did our support. Early on, Angie Myers, a retired Greenfield art teacher, joined our board, bringing invaluable knowledge and local connections. Missy Netzer, who runs the senior center and serves as an alderman on the city council, provided unwavering support in our first year, helping us establish a strong foundation.
Momentum continued to build as more passionate individuals joined the effort. Stephen and Sheila Buus, along with Kirsten Millingar, took the lead in developing our community theater program, while Debbie and Dave Howard joined the board, infusing the organization with business savvy and a get-it-done attitude that propelled us even further. Celeste Whitlow and the communications team took charge of our website, newsletter, and social media, ensuring our reach extended throughout the community.
Then came a transformative milestone: Scott Houston, a generous community member, donated a historic church building to serve as our permanent creative hub. This space became the heart of our organization, hosting art classes, theater performances, gallery exhibits, and more.
None of this would have been possible without the countless volunteers, members, and supporters who continue to step up when needed. Dade County ArtConnect is more than an organization—it’s a movement, a testament to what happens when a community comes together to create something meaningful.
We invite you to be part of our story. Whether you’re an artist, a performer, a supporter, or someone simply looking for a place to explore creativity, there’s a space for you here.
